The radio on my old NAD 7120 receiver just went out and it now plays nothing
but white noise when set to the tuner. Can anyone tell me a) what might be
wrong and b) whether it can be fixed at a reasonable price? I am in Los
Angeles, so if anyone knows someone local who fixes old receivers/amps, I
would appreciate an address or phone number.
Get in touch with NAD, or a dealer that sells them. They should be able to
recommend their authorized service rep for your area. NAD is world wide, and
there should not be a problem for authorized service.
The problem may be in the font end tuner of radio section. If you get noise
and there are no signals to be picked up, this can be a failure of the local
oscillator, or the PLL control for it.
This circuit area is critical to work on, and a tech with RF type experience
should work on it. After any defective parts are changed, a proper front end
alignment should be gone through to make sure that the local oscillator and
RF circuits are tracking properly, and are within the proper specs.

Contact Lenbrook Industries at 800-263-4641 or www.nadelectronics.com. I've also heard good thing about Henry Electronics, an authorized NAD
servicer in CA, but I don't know their location, and I've never had any
dealings with them myself.

Okay, I had it checked out and the price to fix it ($112) is more than it
would cost to buy another off Ebay. I am wondering whether I might be able
to fix it myself. Apparently a capacitor is blown. Is this something I might
be able to do myself? I know nothing about electronics at all, but I assume
it would be a case of replacing capacitors one by one until the radio works
again. I can always borrow a soldering iron. Any thoughts?
