Hard to tell, the beta just came out and all the drivers for gpus are not optimized yet. And to make things worse, my crystal ball just broke.

7850 is a very capable card, to upgrade significantly from that you'd prob have to spend 400-500$

If you want to stick with AMD go for the 7970, all but the most expensive cards can max out far cry 3 at this point
January 29, 2013 5:17:17 PM

ok so if i buy far cry 3 i can run it just fine max settings and all
January 29, 2013 5:18:54 PM

would it be worth it to get the 7970 as in would it be a good enough jump in performance

I have a 3770k OC'ed to 4.5 GHz, and a Gigabyte GTX 670 slightly overclocked as well. With fully maxed settings at 1080p, I average around 55 fps.

Here's a comparison of the two cards. Yes, I'm aware it isn't the most up to date. I just want to give Smiley a general idea of what to expect.

so from the looks of it the gtx 670 is faster than the 7970 on almost all except metro
January 29, 2013 5:32:29 PM

Perhaps. I don't know much about AMD cards to be honest. Those numbers, along with claims that the 670 can easily be overclocked to 680 levels were what influenced me to buy the 670. You may want to look at more recent testing in order to make your decision. For all I know, newer drivers may have pushed the AMD cards ahead.

get another 7850 and crossfire ? the answer couldnt be anymore simpler . and to those who would say crossfire is not worth it just shut the hell up. for $200 you would get performance matching the 7970 GHZ edition . if that is not an amazing deal i dont know what is.

That would definitely be an option, especially since the 7850 by itself is not a bad card. Its just automatic for me to say go for single card lol, I have no experience with Crossfire or SLI, so I usually dont' recommend it, but it is always a viable option.

I have 2 EVGA 660's in SLI and love it...but I have heard the Beta for Crysis 3 does not support CF yet but it does SLI. So if you play the beta, atm, you can't use CF

ok wel if i get 2 7850s or a 7970 which one will last me longer as in be able to play games to come this year

I would go 7970, then, if you need more performance, you could add another..if the budget permits.

k one more question should i get it now because iv heard about the hd8000 series coming out is that even a possibilty to get soon or should i just go ahead and get the 7970

There is always going to be something better around the corner, that is a decision you have to make.

As far as waiting goes, I'm not sure when the next series is gonna come out, before summer maybe? don't hold me to that, but that would be up to you, the next one is always approaching. 7970 is a kick ass card, you'll be happy with it, and it'll last you a while.
January 29, 2013 6:20:19 PM

7970 it is then thanks for your help

They still dip into the 20s intermittently.

No the 7970 is the fastest GPU on the planet.

Dual CPU, single card.

Technically you are both correct.
