Standard Microsoft USB Wired Keyboard 600 (has Audio Controls)
Sidewinder USB Mouse
One Samsung T220 22" monitor has VGA & DVI-D
Dell Precision M4600 (Windows 7 64bit)
Dell Lattitude E6420 (Windows 7 64bit)
Both on E-Port docking stations (VGA , DVI nad DisplayPort)
Please bear in mind that I rate quality and reliability over low price, and would ideally like the KVM to arrive with everything I need (i.e. cables and a UK Plug)
What I want:
To have the external monitor keyboard and mouse central on my workspace with each laptop docked either side lids up so that I can have two dual screen windows environments with the middle screen flip flopping between the two via the KVM.
The laptop panels will then be the alternate screen for that windows session where I can park things I want to keep watching whilst working on the other machine.
I'm not bothered about switching usb, or audio as one machine can handle that quite alright, in fact audio and usb switching are not my idea of a good time,
especially with the devices I have attached to each and the volume I play my music at.
I will later on, either replace my single 22" with two new monitors, or add a second.
My questions are;
What KVM would suit me best?
Will a dual view KVM work temporarily with a single monitor or are they fussy about having two monitors present all the time?
IS Windows 7 going to be a problem?
I've heard about problems with screen resolution at startup and getting twitchy about 'loosing contact' with the monitor when switched away.
