Hello,
I am trying to connect to the internet using an ethernet cord. According to the hotel I am staying at, I am supposed to be able to plug the cord to my computer, open the internet browser and enter in a username and password that was provided to me. I have had other people able to connect their computers.

What's going on?

You need to ensure your local area connection is 1) enabled and 2) set to obtain its IP address automatically (this is normally the case). So, find your way to the control panel, select network connections and double click on the local area connection.

Start up your browser again and you should be ok. If not, you need to go back to control panel and network connections, right click on local area, select properties. Double click on "TCP/IP" and click on the radio button to obtain IP address automatically. - Do OK OK OK and start up a new browser.

If that doen't work, watch TV and talk to somebody that knows what they are doing in the morning.

Oh yeah, & please call the cord a "cable".
