I just got a set of klipsch promedia 4.1's. They sound great, but I'm not so sure about the sound card. I've always had a soundblaster live value, but have been getting distortion when using it.
I'd like suggestions for a good sound card that pushes the speaker system, without alot of extras (synthesizer banks, music creation capability, etc...) Just good clean audio... Any ideas?

Try the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. I have one, and it sounds great!

What kind of distortion are you getting? Could be a problem with your speakers. I had a Live for a while (regular not Value) and I didn't get distortion.

It appeared to be static in all four channels.
The speakers are new, so I didn't think that
they were the cause. (I had a cambridge sound
works before that and the same problem). So
I pinpointed the soundcard.

Again, I don't need any special software (although the
environmental audio adjustments are nice), Just clean sound.

What motherboard chipset are you using? VIA chipsets are notorious for having problems with Creative products, especially the 686B Southbridge. In that case, get the latest Via drivers.

It could also be electronic interference with other parts of your computer. Try moving the card to a different slot. If that doesn't work, I guess the card itself may be bad.
