Need GPU help!

I need some help finding the right GPU for my pc. I've been out of the pc loop for quite sometime. My home built died a few years back and I needed a pc, so I went to a big box and bought a Acer.
Now I wish I had the extra cash and understanding wife to build another... Lol
Enough of my ranting...
What in need is a good GPU for post processing photos with photoshop and maybe the odd game here and there. My biggest worry is buying a GPU and finding out it won't fit in my case.... So here I am.

Would like something from AMD/ATI

Hi - for your situation a processor upgrade and a
so-so gpu will suffice better. The photo processing
will benefit much more with an upgraded cpu vs
gpu.

So maybe upgrade to a phenom am2 quad core?

Where would that leave me for a GPU? I would still like a decent one to play the odd game.

I'm also going to up my ram to the max 8g.
