I'm building a new computer and i was wondering it i should go with two Gtx 660's using sli or get something like just one Gtx 680.

Solution
1080P Gaming? GTX 670/Radeon 7970 FTW

They provide 60+ FPS Performance on almost all games these days...

Unless you play Farcry 3...

Farcry 3 will only give you 27-35FPS Average @ 1080p with 8x AA and Other Eyecandy on...

Better get Cross/SLI for that...

Dual is also the way to go for 3D which is a gimmick and everyone knows it...

I am also going by Maxed = All settings fully maxed and I mean all.

I cross fired 2 7770s. That was ok. Built a new computer.. SLI 'd 2 680 's and that is freak'n awesome. Some say 690 is better but I shopped around and got 2 680's cheaper than 690. Trust me. 2 680's and you won't look back. Not for a while anyway....... Far cry 3 on this will take your breath away...I play all games maxed out in settings......doesn't even break out in a sweat....

Can I ask what Monitor/s you use? And at what resolution.

I can't comment on the 680, but I first bought one EVGA gtx 660 OC and loved it. So I bought another for my second PC, and just for kicks, hooked it up in SLI just to see how it worked. It's still in SLI and I had to buy another GPU for the other machine. They look awesome, I can only imagine how two 680's look. Anyway, here is a chart I found with 2 gtx 660's vs 7970 vs 680..

Yea I would say get a 670 the performance leap to a 680 is not worth the money. You could also look at the 7970 which a little more expensive. But for what you are using you would be better off with a single card. Scaling isn't perfect with two cards and you would get a more stable experience with one which I believe would make you happier would it not? And in the end the one thing I go by and share is get the best single you can with what you can afford. Having 2 cards can be nice and look awesome however it doesn't always translate the way you would like to think in games.

Just because it's not something that you want to do does not mean that someone else doesn't "need" it, as with everything else in this world personal needs differ from person to person. I don't have or need a Ferrari or personal jet but there are those who feel that they do, they don't need these things to survive but they need them because they want and can afford them and good luck to them I say.
