PSU & GPU upgrade to HP pc

February 1, 2013 11:40:52 AM

So,

I got a HP computer: HP Compaq 8200 Elite Convertible Minitower.
My brother upgraded his computer recently with a new PSU and graphics card.
He then offered me the old pieces a 550w PSU from Corsair and an ASUS engtx285 graphics card.

But upon opening my HP PC, I encountered problems. The PSU was not compatible with the motherboard.
The motherboard did not have the usual 20+4 pin plug in. Rather it needed 4-pin power.

The only 4pins on the Corsair PSU was for PCI-e.

So upon googleing this issue a bit, it seems this is a general problem for HP users.

My question is this; Does anyone know of a HP compatible PSU that has a large enough power output
that I can use the graphics card mentioned?

If there is none, can I simply upgrade the motherboard, and still use all of the remaining hardware from the HP pc?
Please keep in mind I am a student, so preferably a cheap soloution and I would like to use the hardware I have
in surplus!

Thank you before hand :)
