ATA133 vs 8MB cache

Ok, the 8MB Cache got good reviews. As well as ATA133 as being a faster disk. There does not appear to be a maker doing both of these. I am planning on buying the new Asus board with 133 support.

Question is, would I be better off with an 8MB cache or ATA133 speed?
Wish Tom would have compared these.

TIA

ATA133 doesn't practically nothing for performance. It's more of a gimmick than a real performance boost. The 8MB cache, on the other does improve certain file operations. I'd go for 8MB cache over ATA133 anyday.

Yeah it's a gimmick to get you pass the 28bit LBA enabling you to have a hard drive larger then 127GB.

I would go for the 8MB cache over the ATA133.

There's only one drive that utilizes the ATA133 48bit LBA at the moment, and that's Maxtor's 160GB from the D540X series. Other then that you should be looking at drives double that size at the end of the year.

You won't notice a difference but benchmarks don't lie, the 8MB cache does improve performance, while ATA133 doesn't. Also, most ATA100 cards and on board controller can support 48-bit addressing through a simple BIOS update.
