Use a program to run. I prefer Bulletproof FTP, with all those features not found on other FTP server programs. Here's the link: http://www.bpftp.com. Alternatively, if you want to find other programs, you can use http://serverwatch.internet.com.

BTW, since guys who read this thread have used FTP servers before... can you guys solve one problem I have? I'm running an FTP server behind Winproxy on the same computer, but it doesn't seem to be able to free one port for data connection, making directory listing unavailable. How do I set up Winproxy's firewall to get by this?

I would recommend G6 FTP or ServU for your FTP server program. I myself prefer G6 - ServU seems to have problems sometimes.

If you're running NT/2000 it's got one built in. You may have to install it though, it's under IIS on 2000 and on NT just install the network service called Microsoft Peer Web Server

It's always the one thing you never suspected.

what OS are you running? win 2k? NT? 98?in win 2k you can set up even a professional machine to run virtual private networking.....this is a much more secure method of access, and pretty cool all around. i would recommend you look into it if you are interested in accessing your home pc from work

ignore everything i say

Just use IIS. Make sure you get the Code Red fix :)

If you want third-party, the best one I've ever used (and I've used a lot), is Ward FTP Daemon. Tons of options.
