Promise Ultra100 TX2 Problem

First time posting--please forgive me if there's a better forum for this problem.

I have a problem with this controller card causing my system to hang on bootup to XP and I've downloaded the latest driver. The thing is that it seems to run fine if I attach either of my Maxtor hard drives to the card but if I attach either my DVD drive or my CD burner to the card the system hangs. I've tried both channels, both drives singly, different cables, etc. Why would it accept a hard drive and not an optical drive?

My system is a P4 1.8 Northwood in an ASUS P4T-e Bios rev. 1005

This is an Ultra DMA controller, is there a reason you are trying to attach those devices to the controller? The motherboard controllers should be sufficient.

Put your DVD and BURNER on Motherboard IDE cable...
And ONLY hard drives on the controler card......
