double clock, double bus? I've heard you don't get twice the memory but thats all i've heard.

What happens with two graphics cards is you get Crossfire/SLI.
Each card will split the workload and sometimes get better performance than a single gpu. but doing Crossfire/SLI is sometimes buggy and there are some problems with scaling.

This is absolutely true for gaming. If you're needing the extra processing power for other things like extreme rendering or BOINC projects, an SLI setup will give you a huge boost.
