Will connecting an HDTV to a modern graphics card via a DVI cable (some new HDTVs come with a DVI connection) give you as good a quality as would a CRT at a normal resolution?

Not really. It kind of really depends on the model TV that you're talking about and type of HDTV. Some HDTV's only support certain resolutions and are geared towards viewing movies.

The best that i've seen for hooking up to a computer and using for a monitor is going to be the Panasonic LCD tv's. LCD tv's are going to also be much better since they aren't as susceptable to burn-in like a plasma or digital projection. They're geared more for receving that type of signal and can also support most of the more popular resolutions that people use on their PC. Plasma can be good depending on the type of technology being used and what generation it is. The Panasonic Plasma again is gonna work better then most other brands. There are of course many other brands that are just as comparable to the Panasonic and some that are gonna be better. But, for value the Panasonic is among the top of the line depending on the model.
