My new phone (should be here today, yipee) has the ability to play an MP3 as
the ringtone.

I was wondering, technically speaking if I will be in breach of copyrights
if I use a song, which I don't acually own?

Also, should have a public broadcast licence (PBL) because of the fact that
I am playing music that in effect can be heard by the public (in the same
way as businesses need a PBL to play proper music whilst they put you on
hold)?

You can use your own CD to put the ringtone on your phone.

Check out this site though - it is the only site on the net which you can
upload your own ringtones and sell them!!! Also it is fully licensed.

http://artists.primetones.com/blummy is my site.

It was founded by the team which did the 1999 Woodstock Festival Emerging
Artist Stage.
