What is better two 60gb GXP hard drives running in raid 0 or one 120gb Western Digital WD1200JB With 8 MB Cache and what about four 60gig GXP hard drives running in raid 0 vs two 120gb WD1200JB hard drives running in raid 0?

I'd go with the WD's.

four 40 GB 120GXP in RAID 0 will offer you a transfer rate of 100 MB/s almost until the final zone of the disks (zone 30). Also the CPU occupation seems to be slightly lower. The access time of the 120GXP is one of the lowest in its category.
But you have to add the cost of the PROMISE fasttrack 100 TX2 board.
Moreover the data reliability of the system array is lower then a single disk, consequently I suggest you to have always a backup disk (only for data) on an IDE channel.
It is also convenient to have a separate disk for caching (page file). Consider that you cannot simultaneously read and write on the same IDE channel.

If it's got the same protocol (mode5/6) it will. But if you're running Raid0, you want each drive on seperate channels. So, two onboard channels don't cut it, hence the addon card.

If you can't lockup your computer from the 4 disk raid0 array, you've got a configuration problem.
