Hello folks.

What brands (and models/speeds) of CD-RW Drives are more reliable? more quiet? Best of both worlds? Any to avoid?

Thanks much as always,

I picked up a Plextor 40x12x40 drive and it's a dream. Very fast (using the 40x sample CD, burned 628MB in 2:36), and surprisingly very quiet. It is no noiser than the 8X4X32 Plextor is replaced.

Did Weird Al write "It's all about the Pentiums" about me?

Lite-On seem to becoming popular for performance as well as reliability for a good price.

Plextor is very, very reliable. However, if you'd like to save some money, a Lite-on should serve you just fine as well.

I have the Yamaha 3200-e, quiet, fast, very reliable. It can make backup copies of the lastest protected
CD's. I really like the cool blue activity light.

The yamaha's and Plex's haul a$$ on right next to everything. And good DAE to boot.

There's a couple of other brands/models that can come close, and will be a heck of a lot cheaper (Liteon). You'll always give up *something*, but if you're not ripping audio every single time you sit down to use the computer, it may not make a significant (>5%) difference in your time.
