Computer won't recognize 5.0ghz WLAN connection

I'm running Windows 7, and we have a dual-band router on 2.4ghz and 5.0ghz. My wireless LAN card is capable of picking up both frequencies, but will not even recognize the 5.0ghz connection, only the 2.4 one. I've checked all of the settings, "country codes", everything I can think of, but I can't seem to find a reason.

If anyone could please give some insight, I'd be more than willing to give more information if necessary.

The wireless router is a Belkin 600n.

Your WLAN adapter may only have one antena. If this is the case you will be able to connect to either the 2.4 or the 5GHz signal. So you ask why the 2.4 and not the 5GHz, your card may prefer the 2.4 or give it priority over the 5GHz.
For you to get the full 600Mbps you will need a dual band - dual antena adaptor.

My wireless adapter has 2 antenna, should I take one out or something? I looked everywhere, and there's no way to give the 5.0ghz priority over the 2.4ghz, except in the "known networks" list, but even when i move the 5.o over the 2.4, the computer never even shows the 5.0 in the available networks list.

Are you sure your router transmits at both frequencies all the time? The router uses 2 300Mbps bands, one on 2.4 and one on 5.0 to achieve the 600Mbps. You could test by simply downloading or copying something over the network. If you can achieve speeds anywhere over 300Mbps, then you are using both bands.

I know that it's using both at the same time, because I can be downloading on my desktop (which will only recognize 2.4) and my laptop (which will only recognize 5.0) at the same time.
