just wondering what the max number of channels you can have in a midi file
for it to play on a nokia 3100, just that i have a midi file thats 9.6kb big
and every time i open it, it says 'unable to open file' and have noticed
that where i've downloaded it from under channels it says 24

I believe you can have no more than 4 notes played at the same time. I'm not
sure if this means that you can have more than 4 channels though.
Cheers

Yep- this is right- the 3100 can only play 4 notes simultaneously,
which is the same as 4 channels.
I use the software from
http://www.logomanager.co.uk/php/products.php?id=52 called PolyPhonix
which is great to edit any midi files which have too many channels for
the phone to deal with. PolyPhonix will let you prioritise the tracks,
and has the 3100 profile built in to the software so it aids with
getting the size of the ringtone and the instruments which the phone
can recognise. It is basically a great midi editor specifically for
the Nokia phones, and allows direct upload by infrared, cable etc.
