I have three RTV4500 units in a network and one of them just stopped
working. No audio output. Or very, very weak audio output. Putting the
TV's volume control at full blast made the output into a whisper. I
thought it was a hardware problem and was trying to figure out where I
could get it fixed when I came here, did a search on "audio output
problem" and found a thread that was distantly related but reminded me
that the first thing to do when a RTV stops working is to turn it off
for a few minutes and then turn it back on. Well, that fixed my
problem! Am posting it in case anyone else has a similar problem and
forgets as I did the first rule of trouble shooting a RTV.

A few years ago I had to use the power off and on trick fairly
regularly and would have thought of that right away, but lately the
units have been much more stable, so I forgot.

Gee, Mine has no audio, no video, no channel guide and it appears no
hard drive.... What does it have... A warranty (it's a 5504) so at least
the repair will be low cost
