I just install, fdisk and format my new Maxtor D740x 80GB harddrive on my Abit KR7A-Raid with the 6N Bios. How come Win98SE detected it as only 74.5GB when it actually is 80GB. How can I recover the other 5.5GB of space? Thanks.

The space is not lost. Drive makers measure space in a different way then the OS. It is normal and there is nothing you can do about it....

Driver makers consider 1kB=1000 byte instead of 1024 byte, 1MB=1000 kB instead of 1024 and 1GB is equal to 1000 instead of 1024 MB. Multiplying the (commercial) errors it results in a little difference. Don't worry you still have a total capacity of 80,000,000,000 byte.

Your getting your full storage but the drive makers and software makers define a MEGABYTE diffrently. Also what file system/cluster size Etc... you use can make a differance on what is displayed but it's all still there.
