I'm considering purchasing a Plasma or LCD HDTV. How is quality of the
Progressive output on the 5508 to this type of TV?

The HDTVs I'm considering is the Sony 50" LCD rear-projection HDTV,
Panasonic 43" Plasma EDTV, and the Samsung 43" Plasma HDTV. I'm leaning
towards the Sony because of the features. My current Sony 32XBR is slowly
dying and is a good excuse to buy an HDTV.

I use the progressive output on my 5040, and the image quality is very good.
Much better than svideo IMO. But my TV is a Samsung 17-inch widescreen. So
I don't know how it would look on a large screen.

Margaret

Progressive outputs are far superior than S-Video.

TRUE. However, consider the quality of the source material. It's
already been limited much more than either of those, so you don't
really get much improvement (you do get some).

Not necessarily true. According to many HDTV users, many TVs produce a
better picture from a Replay via Svideo or even composite. Much has to
do with the TV. Many HDTVs to save bux are eliminating all of the
elaborate filters and corrective circuits developed over the years for SD.
