I have a 40 gig hard drive that is not being listed in My computer on Windows XP Professional. But on the 40 gig HDD that is running 2000 Professional it lists the HDD that has Windows XP Pro on it. My Question is.. How do I make XP Recognize the 40 gig HDD in my computer. Any help is appreciated.

Do you have autodetect on in BIOS? If so you may have to enter USER mode in BIOS and configure it manually. This is usually not a problem with the OS. Is the other HDD the same and is it on the same computer?

Check the flat cable. I had the same problem with a defective flat cable and the disk was randomically not recognized.
Where do you have the 40Gig installed ?
If the HDD is installed using a PCI controller you need to install the drivers.
Check also the My Computer/property/hardware to see if there is some unknown device (the HDD or the controller).
If the disk is installed on Motherboard IDE channel 0/1 and it regularly works when used as boot disk, the disk must be seen by WinXP.
