In a new system with 4 identical 120GB hard drives would it make sense to stripe them all into one large volume? Should the OS (XP or 2000) be run on it's own drive? I need a bunch of storage for video editing, but I don't want to sacrifice performance. What is the best route?

Another dumb question... once upon a time hard drive quality wasn't very consistent. Has this changed much? I've been out of touch. Would I be a fool for doing RAID 0 on four WD drives?

Thanks.

Well raid 0 is the fastest!! BUT IF BUT ONE DIVE FAILS YOU LOOSE ALL DATA!!! If you need redunancy (data safty) your better try running Raid 0+1 .. Most of us out here love to fly by thier seats.. So I personally would use raid 0 and just backup anything I couldn't afford to lose... hope this helps

radi 5 would be your best bet for 4 drives

but you have to have a card that will support raid 5 and those start at baout 330

Yes unless your data is not important or you can do backups often then you want to look at 0/1 for cheap controllers or 5 for nice ones (raid 5 needs additional hardware)
