Screen not coming on

Hello,

My HP DV5 starts up as normal, but the scree us blank even thought the HP sign lights up as normal.. Any idea what is wrong, I have some important information that is why it's essential that I get it up and running...

Is the cable from the computer to the monitor plugged in on both ends?

How about the cable from the monitor to the power strip?

Is the monitor on? Look for a power button - they can often be hard to find.
