My ReplayTV is connected via Ethernet (no land line available) and has
been working problem for months. After returning from vacation I found
the ReplayTV screen showing the "one moment please" screen (the one
when the system starts up and trying to connect to the service.
Probably due to power loss) After un-plugging and re-plugging the RTV,
I was able to get to the screen asking me to choose what I wanted to
do. All my recorded programs were there. Under Menu, there was a
system message which advised that a connection to the service was not
made since August 1st. I went into the network settings and everything
looked ok. Cables were okay too but the TRV still was unable to
connect to the service. When I went into the Router's setup menu (SMC
Barricade G - SMC2804WBR) I noticed that the RTV was no longer listed
as a device using the router (both my Tivo's and Laptop's MAC address
and ID's were visible). I released and renewed the connection but the
RTV still did not show up.
Any advise or suggestions would be appreciated. I am able to manually
record programs but obviously, I am unable to view and of the daily
program schedules.
Thanks in advance
Arawak

Are you sure your RTV is still physically connected to the router?
Most ethernet devices have connections LEDs (the RTV has them in back,
next to the ethernet connector), but people seem to be ignoring them.

There's always the possibility a rat got in and chewed the cable.

You could also make sure the RTV is still set up to use DHCP. If it
still doesn't work, how about giving it a static IP?

Try PING from a networked computer.

That did the tric. The ethernet cable was probably damaged. I replaced
it and I'm now back in business. Thanks for the suggestion about
checking the LED on the back.
Cheers,
