Xfx radeon hd 6770 undetected

Hello,
I recently bought an XFX radeon hd 6770 for my machine as my Nvidia Geforce 9800GT gave in and stopped working. I inserted the card into the motherboard and connected the 6 pin power supply from the PSU, and then hooked it up to my monitor using DVI. When I boot the pc I get a single bios beep, meaning that everything is working, but I can't seem to get the monitor to detect the signal from the graphics card, resulting in black screen/no signal screen. My motherboard does not have an on board graphics card, and as I bought the HD 6770 to replace my older card, I don't have an alternative to use to get to the BIOS or to windows, which has left me in a bit of a situation. I have tried connecting the graphics card to the monitor via a vga connection also, using an adaptor, but this yielded no results either. Any advice on how to get it running, hopefully without having to get another card just to get the settings right for this one, would be appreciated. My system specs are:

AMD FX 8150 CPU @ 3.6GHz
Ezcool 650W PSU
Gigabyte 970A-DS3 Motherboard
XFX HD Radeon 6770 (Z5FH)
Seagate 500Gb HDD

Thanks.
