His psu shouldnt matter, hes using a 9400gt. That should run on any crappy psu.

___

Also if your cpu doesn't work, then you cant even boot to the bios. You need to get a new cpu first.

It would matter if it does not have PCI-e connections for his new GPU

many things can cause the symptoms you are displaying. Since you bought a second had GPU, it could be that. It could be the PSU or MB as well. do you have any way to test the GPU in another Machine?

I tried a 300w psu and same result

Since other components worked, that tells me your MB and PSU are fine. And since the CPU you bought was faulty, and you bought the GPU from the same guy, well it looks like the GPU is bad as well.

Ok so faulty gpu can make hole system fans to spin max?
a b U Graphics card
February 14, 2013 6:17:35 PM

Yes, It can do all kinds of things. Since your system works with another GPU (GT 430) and not with the GT 9400, and you tried multiple PSU's, then I would say your GPU is at fault.

Don't get a cheap PSU, meaning quality, not price. What is your total budget for a psu and GPU?

The PSU powers your entire system and if it goes, it can take everything with it.

February 14, 2013 6:32:11 PM

that is a very good GPU, best in the price range and it will game at 1080P on medium to high settings in most games.

The PSU is a XFX 450 W. It is very nice.

No, I am not sure, It may be just fine, it may blow up and take your new GPU with it. But what I do know is, I would not trust it, I do trust XFX PSU's.

Could we not get a say 500-600w PSU thats trusted for under 30?
a b U Graphics card
February 14, 2013 7:03:59 PM

You are to focused on the wattage... Your system does not require that much, not even close. I am running 2 gtx 660's in sli and only require a 450 watt psu. The name is more important for PSU's. Here is a link where you can calculate how much wattage you will need.

I don't have time to look on ebay right now. I am also in the US so I am not sure about shipping to the UK. But, If you look at the link with the PSU chart, pretty much any PSU 400 W or above will work with a name of Corsair, Seasonic, Antec, XFX, or silverstone. Look at the different teirs on that chart and get one from at least teir 1, 2, or 3.

February 14, 2013 7:27:16 PM

Well, if you have to get a second hand one to stay in budget, get a quality name one. And make sure the seller is reputable with good feed back and hopefully offers returns. You don't want to get burned again.
