I purchased a ReplayTV 4504 at a garage sale.

First I hooked it up and it seemed to replay pre-recorded programs
fine.

Then I went to their web site and found out that this unit required a
subscribtion to work.

Is this unit working now because of its grace period (Unit time is off
now) or a lifetime subscription?

Is there a way for me to find out whether this unit has a lifetime
subscription from its menu or setup info etc?

this is one way to do it:

use your web browser and go to
http://rns.replaytv.net/cgi-bin/2. [...] mber_here_

(be sure to enter your serial number in the link)
when asked for user name and PW, enter RNSBasic as the user and A7x*8-Qt
as the password.

then, look at the text that is returned for

regedit setval SysConfig/Auth Activated 1

1 means yes, registered; 0 means no, not registered.

Generally, your 4 series should be activated just fine.

Look in Menu: Setup and there's a screen that will tell you your status.
If it says Lifetime Activated you're Golden.

I would say, if it plays shows OK it is lifetime. When my 4508
"doorstops" it won't play the stuff on the drive. I think the sound is
gone if I remember correctly. It also pops up a nag screen everytimne
you select a menu.

As I said in my earlier reply, you can get to the status from the setup
menu. It will tell you if it's Lifetime. If it was sold at a garage sale
as you indicated, I'm guessing that they would have stopped paying the
monthly some time ago.

BruceR,

Mine (4504) shows a service key number (99P) at the end of the serial
number
but does not show the status from the setup menu.

Is yours ReplayTV 45xx?
