1440p vs 3x 1080p

Hi I am wondering what would be better a single 2560x1440 or three 1080p monitors. What do you think and why. Would a single hd 7970 be able to max out most games for both options? I will be using it for gaming.
Thanks for the help.

I've heard that 3 monitors are a big pain in the butt, and lots of games don't support 3 monitors.

I was just thinking about getting a new monitor so I thought that 3x1080 would be the best, but then I have been persuaded to look at the 1440p monitors and 120Hz monitors from what people have said by reading forms.

I was also thinking about 120hz monitor but I'm not sure between the 1440p V.S. a 120Hz.
to me I just want a 27"+ monitor with a good resolution, I think it would be more immersive

I think what it comes down to is going to you local store and look at the different monitors

also I was looking into monitors and heard about OC them! I dont know how to do it but...It could be BS idk
I would get a 670 or 7950 before buying a high resolution monitor

Ive heard that this monitor is close to the Dell UltraSharp U3011 but has more glare

3 monitors are great, when they work. I wouldn't go back simply because I use them for more than eyefinity. Being able to run code on one, run it, and run it on a VM on a third is amazing. But from a pure gaming standpoint I strongly believe that a high res 27"+ monitor will be superior because the support for super wide gaming is just not there(yet).

Maybe in a few years. So if you do productivity sure why not, gaming...I'd say maybe? Some games support it others don't. Check widescreen gaming for incompatibility (wsgf.org).

I'd stick with 1 good monitor. Like dude said, not many games support 3 monitors and those game that do support it seem to have a distorted view. Also you would have to find monitors that have close to zero bezel or else the setup will look horrible.

And yes a 7970 will handle a 1440p monitor with ease on max settings.

Thanks for the reply. I will probably end up getting a overclockable 1440p monitor. (they do have them and there is a few youtube videos that show how to OC them)
