I can get a 5870 for £85, as opposed to a 7850 for £130, which one is better?

Btw, does a 5870 use 2 pci slots?

More about : radeon 5870 7850

that site is meaningless, there is a reason the 7850 costs more.

When I'm refering to the £85, this is off a friend, 5870 prices are high....

thats fine. i wouldnt spend money on a card thats about to be 3 generations old. the 7850 will beat it at stock clocks, and will overclock better.

But still...for that price? How is it not worth getting? That was like a top line AMD card back in 2009-2010

high end gpu's dont last forever, that one is 3-4 years old already.

Sometimes even free is too expensive. And as has been pointed out the 5870 is already a couple generations out.

the 5870 is about as fast as a 6950. its still a decent card, although not the best on power consumption and temps as is the new generations. as well, tesselation support on the 5xxx series cards was terrible

It only uses one slot.

The 7850 is significantly faster than the 5870, but then that 5870 is a lot cheaper. It's potentially good value if you can live with having an older card that uses more power and is probably noisier.

Oh right, i've read the 5870 is really good though, maybe not as good as I first thought, is it better then a 560ti at the same price?

the 560ti is about the same power as the 5870
February 17, 2013 9:34:04 PM

Hmm, the 7850 is bloody expensive though, especially at my budget

I can play with it to be honest, I may end up going with a 7850 if it's cheap enough, what about this? - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1GB-MSI-Radeon-HD-7850-OC-480...

not too bad if thats the only place in the UK you can get it
i know UK prices are steeper than in the US
that card comes with free bioshock and tomb raider? what are you waiting for?
February 17, 2013 9:38:25 PM

I'm from UK man, would rather buy in £ from an english retailer etc

That's literally the cheapest I've found, is it worth it?

thats about the same price as the one i linked, and comes with two free games... yeah id say its a very good buy.
The only thing is i wouold go with the 2gb version, but if thats all your budget allows, then you should be happy with the 1gb version. plus, if you factor in the prices of two new titles to be released, then it more than makes up for the gap in price between the 5870 and 7850. Also, its newer tech, runs cooler, and uses less power.

*** now I'm spoiled for choice, which one is better?
Just to make sure, both cards only require 1 PCI slot and 2 6 pin PCI-E connectors right?

Yes, it only requires a pcie 16x slot and one 6 pin pcie connector, not two.

Right, should be sorted then, is dabs a good site to buy from, and how much is PaP?

yesir, the 7850 is a single 6 pin device, will use less power, be more quiet and cooler than the 5870 as well as have 3 games. i would go with the ghost from xfx.

Yes, dabs is a trusted an reliable website, the information should be all in there, when you add the 7850 to the cart.

Hmm actually, is the 1gb 7850 better then a 560ti? Because I can get a 560ti for £80 off my friend....

But does your friend have 3 free games to bundle it with.....
February 17, 2013 10:40:35 PM

No, but to be honest, I'm not really interested with any of those games included. Which one is better for shere performance, I know the 7850 2gb is better by a bit, but I'm not sure how much the 1gb version will suffer

The 7850 is still just a bit faster
