Is a Radeon 5870 better than a 7850?

When I'm refering to the £85, this is off a friend, 5870 prices are high....

thats fine. i wouldnt spend money on a card thats about to be 3 generations old. the 7850 will beat it at stock clocks, and will overclock better.

But still...for that price? How is it not worth getting? That was like a top line AMD card back in 2009-2010

high end gpu's dont last forever, that one is 3-4 years old already.

Sometimes even free is too expensive. And as has been pointed out the 5870 is already a couple generations out.

the 5870 is about as fast as a 6950. its still a decent card, although not the best on power consumption and temps as is the new generations. as well, tesselation support on the 5xxx series cards was terrible

The 7850 is significantly faster than the 5870, but then that 5870 is a lot cheaper. It's potentially good value if you can live with having an older card that uses more power and is probably noisier.

thats about the same price as the one i linked, and comes with two free games... yeah id say its a very good buy.
The only thing is i wouold go with the 2gb version, but if thats all your budget allows, then you should be happy with the 1gb version. plus, if you factor in the prices of two new titles to be released, then it more than makes up for the gap in price between the 5870 and 7850. Also, its newer tech, runs cooler, and uses less power.

i would go with this one, even further offsets the price with yet another free game.

yesir, the 7850 is a single 6 pin device, will use less power, be more quiet and cooler than the 5870 as well as have 3 games. i would go with the ghost from xfx.

No, but to be honest, I'm not really interested with any of those games included. Which one is better for shere performance, I know the 7850 2gb is better by a bit, but I'm not sure how much the 1gb version will suffer
