Have network password, but it asks for encryption code

Help! I am running windows xp, and we got a new network. I have the password I am supposed to use, but instead, it keeps asking for an encryption code instead of just the network password, and don't know how to get it to as for a password instead.

It turns out that the problem was that it was an older laptop that only had WEP capability, and the new network was using WPA2. I wound up buying a usb wireless adapter and am using that on the laptop instead of the built in wireless receiver, and that seems to have solved the problem.
