Why do I have such bad fps with my 7970

Hello,
I have a 7970 gpu, a 8120 Zambezi CPU, 32g of G-skill ares 1333 ram, a Biostar 990fxe mobo, a apevia 750 watt PSU and 2 terabytes of hard drive space. And still or some reason I only get about 49-79 fps in BF3 multiplayer and games like sleeping dogs and hitman absolution, all games on ultra settings at 1900x1080.
I wasn't concerned until one of my friends has the same card and got around 80-120 fps on BF3 multiplayer on ultra.
What is wrong with my setup that I have such a smaller amount what do I need to upgrade?

BF3 multiplayer is very, very CPU bound. 64 player maps easily use 100% of my i5-2500k@4GHz. You won't see many benchmarks of BF3 multiplayer, because multiplayer is too random to get comparable tests. It may also have to do with memory speed, but your best bet would be to upgrade or overclock your CPU.

I am willing to bet he has a lower resolution monitor than you.

I would say it is your CPU + low ram speeds. The AMD CPUs benefit a lot more from high clocked ram than intels. You might want to think about replacing your CPU with a FX-6300,FX-8320, or FX-8350 as well as getting some 1866 + ram. IF 49-79 FPS is really an issue for you, those frame rates are well in the "playable" range.

Thanks guys for the help
He has I believe a 8320 CPU and faster ram speeds
Also ik the frames are playable I was disappointed I spending almost 450$ for the graphics card and not getting the same results as he did
Do you think if I overclock my CPU to anywhere higher then 4.1 ghz it'll increase my fps? I already have liquid cooling
An if so any good overclocking guides for my CPU?

Yeah the new fx processors are much better then the older ones... the 8350 with faster ram especially above 2000Mhz should make a significant difference. But BF3 is still pretty demanding ultra, especially if your running 1080p or higher resolutions. So don't set your hope on 120fps.

Also there are supposedly some hot fixes for the windows 7 running the fx cpus... so maybe downloading those will help... im not sure where to find them, but if you google around, i bet you can find them.

Those frames are fine for your setup, you can't expect much more in my opinion. I mean over 60fps and the human eye almost cant catch the difference, dont watch FRAPS and just play and you'll never even know.

As a sidenote I upgraded to Windows 8 last month and the improvement with my FX-8350 which is overclocked to 4.5ghz was really noticeable.

I'm running a 7850 with similar system specs as you and I get slightly less frames in those same games.

Ill probably upgrade the ram and overclock a little and ill be fine :) just wanted to make sure nothing was broken or anything

Nope your rig is performing as it should, GL with your upgrade/overclock!
