General networking

Hello

my wireless router is on the second floor. Have ethernet cable from one of the ports from the back of the router to ground floor via cavity wall into a socket on the ground floor from where another cable connects to my desktop. but internet connection is weak and unable to access easily. should I be connecting the ethernet cable to the internt port of the router rather than any port? any other suggestion--thanks

most routers have five ports, one WAN/Internet port and 4 LAN ports.

the modem needs to connect to the WAN/Internet port

the computer should be connected to one of the four the LAN ports
