fdisk for partition

excuse my ignorance but is it possible to use fdisk to partitiona drive that already has an os on it or will that mess up the data? i installed my os and some programs on my maxtor 40gb and now i realize that i should have partitioned it off, and i don't own any of those fancy "partition magic" programs either, so how can i make partitions for free?

If you wanna partition for free, <A HREF="http://www.users.intercom.com/~ranish/part/" target="_new">Ranish Partition Manager</A> is something you can <i>try</i>. I'm not sure how well it works, but if it messes up your computer, you got what you paid for.

If you don't wanna take the risk, just go with FDISK. Sorry...
