Can't see main screen

Hello, I've got a Goodmans GTVL19W17HD. Using a VGA to VGA, it works and then it disappears. Grateful for any ideas.

make sure the cable connects are not loose

Thanks - already checked that. It's coming and going and when it does appear the quality seems to have dropped quite a bit from the original connection. This is the first time I've tried using it as a monitor. Don't have this problem with the Dell monitor.
