Lost internet and speaker

Now, I feel like I've been asking too many questions, but I need help again. So I just built a new computer and started it up with Windows 8. It has been working fine, picked up my internet just fine, and my speakers have been working. Today I installed ventrilo and was trying to get my headset working (it works fine use it on my laptop all the time, but it does plug in to usb rather than to the microphone and speaker slots) they weren't working. So I looked up how to get them to, and tried this thing that was suggested to unplug the headset, turn off the computer, and restart with them plugged in. They made a strange beeping sound on start up and now my computer won't recognize the ethernet cable or my speakers anymore. Anybody have any idea what is wrong or how to fix it?

Oh and another thing that could relate. My computer doesn't turn off when I click shut down. The light stays on and the fans keep going so I manually turn it off with the switch.
