Router working but no bandwidth

My Netgear router model no DG834G v5 is working that is all the the lights are showing,the trouble is i can download hardly anything,in fact my d/L speed is practically zero i rang the isp and was told it is something wrong at my end could someone help me with the setup steps i need to take to restore my bandwidth I have a 5GB download limit,my isp by the way wasn't very helpful

yes my router does connect to the isp,and is wired to the computer (PC) it is very strange as i can download small things,send email and generally surf the net but my passion is movies which as you would know can be quite big eg upto and over a GB,once i try to download a movie that is when the bandwidth takes a nosedive.thanks for your help Emerald
