I have a newer laptop than my roommate .. and I get 48mbps compared to their 150mbps.. same router connection password and all. . and oh yea.. we sit only 5-8ft apart. ???? what can i do? . I've tried updating my wireless drivers.. and using AVG PC Tuneup to optimize my internet.. .. ugh.

Hello and welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums.

Go into the connection's Properties then click on Configure next to the adapter's name. Click Advanced and see if you have Media Type in the options and if you do and it's set to Auto, change it to 100Mbps Full Duplex. That may help but whle you're in there, look at the other settings..
