Plan to make the jump from XP Home to 7. Do I go Pro or Home with 7?

Last response: in Windows 7

This weekend, I'm upgrading to a phenom x2 x64 from a P4.

I plan on adding a 40gbSSD to hold Win 7 (I'll keep XP on another HD for now).

Realistically, should I go with Win 7 Pro or the Home edition? Both would be x64.

I have the Win 7 Home x64 on my new laptop, and it seems fine. I'm wondering about XP mode in 7 Pro. Is that something I'd want? My XP is the 32 bit version, so I'm not even sure I'd benefit at all, but I really have no idea.

Thanks,

Jeff

Only you can answer the question as to whether you need XP mode or not (or any of the other features of Pro).

Mm... Depends what features you want to have. Personally I found aero peek useless and Media Center very weak, XMBC is much better. This is why I'm planning to buy Windows 7 basic.

XP mode is not for games.

It's more for business proprietary programs that would normally crash in a 64-bit OS environment.

Does that help you out?

Yes. I'm a light gamer, but run no old applications really (Money 2004 is the oldest) and nothing proprietary
