Hi! I'm trying to run an Extended Desktop using Windows XP but it's not working no matter what I try. I was trying to use Eyefinity until I realized I needed Windows 7, which means a new pc for me, which I am not willing to do right now. Also, I originally wanted this application for two pcs and to be able to toggle between the two (so if, in reading this, you see how that can be done, please feel free to provide that feedback as well), but at this point, I will be happy if I can get it working on one and toggle to the second using just one monitor. However, I want to make this work with XP. Here is what I have:
2. Monitors include:
~2 of these: http://www.amazon.com/I-Inc-IH283HPB-Class-Widescreen-M..., which have a max res of 1920 x 1200
~1 of these: C:US:3160" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://www.ebay.com/itm/CROSSOVER-30Q5-PRO-30inch-IPS-Q... (the face popping up when I post this link can be replaced with a colon and a capital O - it's showing up as the emoticon instead - not intended), which has a max res of 2560 x 1600 and has been lowered to match the other two when trying to extend the desktop - the max res on this one would be used only when I switch to the second pc/using only one monitor
3. Video cards include:
~In pc #1 (the one I want to have the extended desktop/3 monitor config from): Two ATI Sapphire HD5870 cards, each of which has 1 display port output, 2 dual-link dvi digital outputs and one hdmi 1.3 port. The box from one is white and says it has: ATI Eyefinity multi-display, Onboard HDMI and DisplayPort, CrossFireX ready, 2+ TerraFLOPS Processing Power, Microsoft DirectX 11, PCI Expres 2.0, and VaporX Cooling Technology. There are also a few other stickers on the box - one says Dirt-2 and one says Battlestations Pacific, which I believe are just a few games it came with. The second ATI Sapphire HD5870 is the same but it came in a black box and it says it has Black Vision, ArcSoft SimHD Near HD Video IM plugin, and that is has PCI Express 2.1. It is otherwise the same - has the ATI Eyefinity multi-display, Onboard HDMI and DisplayPort, CrossFireX ready, 2+ TerraFLOPS Processing Power, Microsoft DirectX 11, and also has 1 display port output, 2 dual-link dvi digital outputs and one hdmi 1.3 port.
~In pc #2: (the one I want to toggle to and use just the one monitor at its max res of 2560 x 1600): 1 ATI HD6950 , which has 1 display port output, 1 dual-link dvi output, 1 single-link dvi output, 1 Display Port 1.2. The box is black and it says it's a 2 GB GDDR5 and has Black Vision, Full DirectX 11 Support, AMD Eyefinity multi-display technology, PCI Express 2.1, 1080p Full HD, AMD HD3D technology, Display Port Version 1.2, HDMI high speed, 7.1 HD surround sound, SuperFast GDDR5 memory, and a TRIXX utility.
My other concern is that even if I get this to work, my game won't run on my system due to being overtaxed from all this. It runs fine now, but that is using just my single monitor. I am using a 3 GHz processor.
