I recently bought a new monitor (2560x1440), so I've been looking into a new GPU to keep up. I pretty much settled on the 7870 LE after reading a few articles, however I just missed the sale Newegg where it was on $208 and it is now out of stock. I've started to take a look at the Sapphire 7870 XT, since now their price points are comparable considering the rebate, and I just wanted to make sure that they are essentially using the same chipset. I've read a couple places that the 7870 XT uses the Tahiti LE, but Sapphire is not listed as a company selling the board in this article .

Basically I am just confused and could use some reassurance before I commit. Any clarification would be appreciated.

These two cards are more powerful than other 7870s. They use the Tahiti LE architecture, which from what I've read, is basically a crippled 7950. Neither XFX or Asus provide cards with this chipset.

After reading more on the subject, I believe I've calmed my paranoia and am ready to pull the trigger on the Sapphire card. I guess I'll assume that the article was just inaccurate when it left out Sapphire's name as one of the companies providing Tahiti LE based cards.

I was waiting to see the february version of "best gpus for the money" since I wanted to get a 7870. Yesterday I bought the sapphire xt with boost, and today in the article it lists the 7870 le as a great card. I think powercolor has more overclock potential, but sapphire is more quiet or something.
Finally I will max out many games I used to play with a 6670.

And now I am pissed. This is the third card that has gone out of stock on me, second being right as I put it in my cart. Is there any chance of it getting back in stock before the rebate ends? Because the Powercolor one sure as hell hasn't gotten back in stock since two weeks ago.

Tomshardware made a news article about it, and they said this.

UPDATE: A great deal doesn't stick around for long! The PowerColor HD7870 PCS+ Myst Edition card is sold out and won't be restocked before the end of the promo code, but those of you who missed it will soon be getting a second chance.

Thanks for pointing this out. I will definitely keep my eyes out for this "second chance". I'll make sure not to waffle around this time.

I hope it's the exact same deal and not like some after rebate deal.

The Sapphire 7870 XT comes with the Boost feature which allows it to outperform the PowerColor 7870 LE Myst. Yes they are both Tahiti LE cards.

http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/5158/sapphire_radeon_hd_7870_xt_tahiti_le_2gb_with_boost_overclocked_video_card_review/index.html

As you can see the Boost feature is just a second bios set to faster clock speeds. You can overclock any 7870 XT/LE to achieve the same results, but if you damage your card by overclocking yourself you will void its warranty.

If I were to get a 7870 XT/LE I wouldn't be overclocking it anyway, so I'd settle for the cheapest card as long as it's reliable. Keep a look out for any of them on discount :) Great value for money nevertheless.

Yeah, I checked it...7870 XT is a little bit better and temperature is lower for 5 celsius. 7870 LE is 15€ cheaper. Would I detect any difference If I will take XT?
