Hello,
I read the many articles with relation to the above error - didn't come with a win7 disk just the drivers disk. the rebuild command didn't work any other suggestions how to restart pc?

this should be easy if you have a dell operating system disc, one matching the service pack you have would be best but if you can get one,

we are going to use the recovery console to fix this
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307654
hot to video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47bnRmqwSPA

we are going to "fix master boot record"

once in recovery console type the next line exactly like you see then hit enter then do the line after that and hit enter select y after each command
fixboot
fixmbr

This does not help with fixing the MBR back to it's original state! I have the recovery partition but am not able to get to it by pressing f8 as 'Repair your Computer' only gives me a black screen. There must be someone out there that knows how this is done?

The system is a Inspiron 560 Win 7 64bit
