Is a Gigabyte Radeon HD 7770 OC faster than an HIS Radeon HD 6850?

Maybe a little bit, due to the factory OC. They're generally quite evenly matched.

The 6850 is generally faster even with a factory OC

How old is that graphic, though? Iirc, it's from a fair bit before the 7k series had well-optimized drivers.

That review was from the last 2 weeks :p  Feb 13th 2013 :)  AFAIK, techpowerup does the tests every time for all the cards for each review (this was done with rev.25 of the techpowerup test setup). Latest drivers, the 6850 was even faster with older drivers.

The price is important too as the 6850 are a bit hard to find sometimes and generally costs more than the 7770 and the 650ti due to its limited supply

Haha, never mind then. :p

I'm actually surprised to see that it's still faster - I would have figured the 7770 would have won.

The 7770 is actually really gimped for its model number

Looking at raw shader counts, 7970 = 2048k, 7950 = 1792k, 7870XT = 1536, 7870 = 1280k, 7850 = 1024k, 7770 = 640, 7750 = 512

Every GCN card increases its shader count by 256 except the 7770 which only gets 128 more than 7750. IMO the 7770 should have had 768 shaders like this card http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/768-shader-pitcairn... and either a mem bus of 128-256 (192 if they wanted)

Huh, now that's interesting. I wonder if they're planning a 7770XT to fill that gap, and that's what Tom's got. It seems like it wouldn't be as important as the 7870XT, but perhaps...

I could see that happening but that would likely cannibalize the 7770 sales. I am thinking the 7770 is the full cape verde chip so the 7770XT would most likely be a even lower binned 7850 pitcarin based. It would be a pretty good competitor with the 650ti though then if they got the pricing right

why have a 7770xt, why not call it a 7790?
But to the OP, 6850 is better at some games, the 7770 takes the edge in others.

I can't really see why would anybody look for a 6850 because its older tech. I posted this to know is my 6850 faster than a 7770 :D
