Connecting an audio source to LEDs

Forum Home Audio : General Discussion Connecting an audio source to LEDs

This is more of a general question but, is it at all possible to wire,
let's say, an iPod to a series of LEDs that you'd pick up at RadioShack?
Something along the lines of having the LEDs emit in response to the
music, similar to how a stereo's LED indicator will pulses in response
to what;s playing. If it is possible, how difficult (and costly) would
this endeavor be? Thank for any help you can give.

If you mean an LED VU meter, see the top item on this page:
http://www.alltronics.com/kits3.htm

If you mean flash random LED's to the beat of the music, that's a little
more complicated. In either case, since an LED is a current driven device,
you would need to build a circuit to drive the LED's. Just wiring them
to the headphone jack won't work.
