The only issue I've encountered so far with this notebook is it's graphics card. Originally, I had the laptop sent back to MSI roughly a year ago for the same problem I am having now. Unfortunately, it's no longer under warranty and I haven't seen any official recalls about my problem, though, I've done my research and it seems as if many people have ran into the same complications I have.
--Basically, I can't install any nvidia graphics drivers for the GeForce 540M GT that comes with this notebook. The card doesn't appear on the Device Manager list and every version of windows i've installed can't find it. Luckily it also comes with the wonderful Intel HD 3000 integrated chip, but that's besides the point.
I've reformatted to Windows XP, 7, and now Windows 8 to see if the card would be detected within Device Manager but it still has yet to appear. When MSI returned the notebook to me, the card was working again. All of a sudden the notebook BSOD' and the card is not showing up anywhere (same exact problem I had originally when I sent it in for repair 1 year ago)
Tried using older versions of the nvidia drivers and also tried different .ini configurations. Seems as if the drivers just will not install unless the card appears within device manager.
Also, i've tried disabling the Intel HD 3000 card, uninstalled the drivers and reboot the notebook to see if it would detect the nvidia card, but every time windows 8 boots up, it automatically reinstalls the Intel HD 3000 drivers upon logging in.
Updated the BIOS to the latest version on MSI's website... which I thought would work because the description for the BIOS update is specifically for the nvidia card but that was no use either.
Does anyone know what I could do from here? My guess is the nvidia card isn't going to come back on unless its physically replaced or repaired because I don't believe it's a windows/software issue. I'm not an expert though so if anyone can give me any suggestions or insight regarding my graphics problem I'd really appreciate it!!
