Hello,
I am having trouble getting my crossfire to work with my gigabyte 6950 1g and my visiontek 6950 1g. Every thing is fine till I launch a game or do any 3d graphics test, in fullscreen mode. Here is the text from the dump file debugged with windbg.

Okay...

It seems to me like you're getting the BSOD as soon as you put load on your cards, which begs the question: what kind of PSU are you using? what wattage is it rated for and how much current does it support on the 12V rail? this information should be available as a sticker on the PSU
February 26, 2013 2:04:34 AM

I'm using a Rosewill Bronze Series 1000W PSU
+12V1-----Max Current 20A
+12V2-----20A
+12V3-----30A
+12V4-----30A

The "OVERLAPPED_MODULE: Address regions for 'spsys' and 'spsys.sys' overlap" portion of my buggcheck has me the most concerned, along with atikmdag.sys apparently being the faulting driver.
February 26, 2013 2:10:21 AM

a 6950 needs about 15A or so per card, so two cards makes 30A... you should barely scrap by but I'm feeling a bit iffy.

I'll do some digging around, haven't looked at this subject for a while. in the meantime hopefully someone will chime in and prove me wrong (so you won't need a new PSU)

Yes, the atikmdag.sys does point to the driver, most likely some type of crossfire failure. in the meantime, setting the PSU thing aside, there are a few things we can try. first, if you haven't done so already:

1. take aparty the crossfire assembly
2. test playing games with each of your 6950 cards individually, just to make sure that they're each functional by themselves and your system recognizes them properly

Yep...Tried both cards in slot 1 alone and together with crossfire disabled and games as well as everything else worked fine. Also tried using 1 and 2 bridges to see if that made a difference. I just replaced my entire system except for my old hdds for storage and the PSU and cards. I did a clean install of Windows 7 pro 64 on a new SSHD drive and that got rid of issues like random bsods and other issues but not this one. The driver being used is 13.1.

That does really sound power supply related... What is the motherboard chipset and are the drivers current for it? Also, is anything in that system overclocked?

^I agree

if you're overclocking anything, go to your BIOS and reset everything back to default and try gaming again, if you still BOSD it is most likely related to your power supply. in which case I would recommend you refer to this list for a future purchase decision:
http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/thread/323050.aspx

btw, 1000W is way overkill, get a good brand 750-850W with a juicy 40A or so on the 12V and that should suffice

The gigabyte card comes factory overclocked at 870, but I have it underclocked at 800 just like the standard visionteck card. I'm using the latest driver,13.1.

Done some digging and found that my psu has 75A on four 12v rails(2x20A,2x30A). So I doubt that its a power issue.
February 27, 2013 11:53:00 PM

oh wow, yeah with 75A on a 1000W, sounds like it's a pretty decent PSU... I'll see if I can figure out more and get back to you.

just a silly thought, perhaps one of your crossfire bridges is broken?
February 28, 2013 2:52:01 AM

Wouldn't hurt to try some combinations using one bridge. I'll let you how it goes.
March 9, 2013 3:03:37 PM

Tried both bridges, but received the same results. Guess I'll have to try amd customer support for a driver fix.

yes do that. sorry about the late reply. hopefully customer support solves your issues. also, I would try contacting whoever it is that made your mobo, perhaps that needs a driver tweak as well
