Just a couple of questions:
1) What's the specs of your new computer?
2) What kind of work do you do with it?

If you just want stability, and you don't game a lot, then you might as well stick with Win2K. But, there's a lot of features that make Windows XP special. Here are some links:

Windows XP is quite possibly Microsoft's best operating system yet. However, that does not mean in any way that it is perfect. That being said, I believe you will be much happier if you start with XP. It games and it is stable; two very important requirements to me personally.

I personally think that 2k is the best OS out at this point (with SP2 & SP3 should be out soon). But XP is extremely good. It's based much off of 2k, it's just not my favoritte because I think they still need to have a few bugs worked out, but I'm anticipating in couple of months XP will indeed be my favoritte. Anyhoo, go w/ XP or 2K, just make sure you format and start fresh, don't just upgrade.

I've found Microsoft's WinXP to be a very stable operating system. I can go for a looooong time without rebooting due to a system crash, and I mean a "long" time...

It's a great improvement over 98SE and ME, and a smaller improvement over 2000.
