I bought Dell Precision T5400 several months back. It came with two xeon x5260 @ 3.33 GHz processor, 16 GB RAM and Quadro FX 1700. I am looking for the best ($300-400 price range ) video cards for video editing in Premiere and AE, and DVD and BluRay Authoring in Encore.
I know the video card need to be PCI Express x16 Gen 2 or 3, but there are so many and I am not sure which one to choose. if someone can help me it would be gladly appreciated.

I would recommend any card that has at least 2GB vram. Depending on the kinds of things you are doing, you may benefit from 3GB. If you want to save some cash, you can go for a Radeon HD 7850 2gb (not the 1gb version). Within your price range, you can get the Radeon HD 7950, which will come with 3GB vram.

This is Adobe's official supported card list. It would be wise for you to not stray from it. The Quadro 2000 is near your price range. I would stay with the Quadro line of cards and not venture into the gaming cards(GeForce series)

AMD Radeon HD 6750M (only on certain MacBook Pro computers running OS X Lion (10.7.x) with a minimum of 1GB VRAM)
AMD Radeon HD 6770M (only on certain MacBook Pro computers running OS X Lion (10.7.x) with a minimum of 1GB VRAM)
Supported NVIDIA graphics cards for GPU acceleration
GeForce GTX 285 (Windows and Mac OS)
GeForce GTX 470 (Windows)
GeForce GTX 570 (Windows)
GeForce GTX 580 (Windows)
NVIDIA® Tesla C2075 card (Windows) when paired with a Quadro card as part of an NVIDIA Maximus™ configuration
Quadro FX 3700M (Windows)
Quadro FX 3800 (Windows)
Quadro FX 3800M (Windows)

Quadro 2000D (Windows)
Quadro 2000M (Windows)
Quadro 3000M (Windows)
Quadro 4000 (Windows and Mac OS)
Quadro 4000M (Windows)

Quadro 5000M (Windows)
Quadro 5010M (Windows)
Quadro 6000 (Windows)

They get pretty expensive after the Quadro 2000.... Would be nice if we could all have Quadro 6000's but who has an extra 2000.00 for a video card? =D
