Need urgent help on Radeon HD 6870

February 27, 2013 10:54:01 AM

Hi I recently upgraded my pc with XFX Radeon HD 6870 DD (Dual Fan) 1GB, I could not connnect the card as it requires 2 pci-e power connectors.

I have couple questions :

1. Can I use the molex - 6pin pci-e as my PSU has only one 6pin pci-e. - Am I at any risk, frying the PSU may be ?
2. Can my setup create bottlenecks ?

Here's my configuration:
System is 4-5 years old - Motherboard is 6months old.

Core2Quad 6600 2.4 ghz 8mb cache
Corsair XMS2 DDR2 5gb (2x2) + (512x2) 800 Mhz
Intel DG45ID Board
CoolerMaster PSU - eXtreme Power Plus 500W (Remember: Its 5 years old)
Single Monitor DellSP2208WFP (22" Monitor - 16:10)

Other Notes:
1. I usually use it for web-design - Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver etc...
2. Planning to play games in high settings, not ultra. - Occassional gaming - but heavy gaming on holidays and weekends.

Please help... as I dont want to spend on new PSU.

Thanks in Advance
