Okay so now I see the HP 220i DVD+R,RW is going to be available soon. My question is this:

How much more widely accepted is the DVD-R going to be in current consumer players. I'm asking this because the current 100i just got its price slashed to like $340!!
Thats pretty damn inexpensive and if most consumer home video DVD players can play RW+ discs why should I get the 200i???

I'm following this closely too, as I want to start authoring DVD's of my own video projects. But from what I've read, about 80% of the DVD readers will successfully read DVD-R, and about 70% of DVD readers will successfully read DVD+RW. So DVD-R is considered the most versatile. However, what I'm interested in is drives like the new Pioneer DVR-A04 (for around $390)

Write support:
1x 2x CLV at DVD-R
1x CLV at DVD-RW
4x 8x CLV at CD-R
4x 8x CLV at CD-RW

Read support:
DVD-ROM & DVD-Video (single & dual layers)
DVD-R, CD-ROM Mode1
CD-ROM XA Mode2 (form 1, form 2)
Photo CD (single & multiple sessions)
CD-DA, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-RW

Compatiblity:
It supports DVD-Video, DVD-ROM and DVD-R, as well as CD-ROM, CD-Audio, CD-R, CD-RW, CDI, CD Bridge, CD Extended, CD Mixed Mode and Photo CD media

Recording Speed:
Record a full length DVD in about 30 minutes, a CD in about 10 minutes

So the question is, is this thing the ultimate drive? Or are there still compatibility issues? Because I don't care how cheap it is, if it can't be read by DVD boxes, what good is it to someone who wants to author DVDs?
